Sermon Title: "How Long?” by Rev. Jim Reisner

“Optimism and hope are radically different attitudes. Optimism is the expectation that things – the weather, human relationships, the economy, the political situation and so on – will get better. Hope is the trust that God will fulfill God’s promises to us in a way that leads us to true freedom. The optimist speaks about concrete changes in the future. God sent Peter to Cornelius to include the Gentiles in the early church. God sent Luther, Calvin, Knox and Wesley to their moments in time to bring about reform in the church. God sent Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Dorothy Day, Martin Luther King, Jr., Desmond Tutu, Rick Ufford-Chase, and Jane Spahr because God wanted to get something done.
